Currently

A while back, in that brief span of time when it seemed like everyone had a Xanga, one thing I found interesting on those blog entries was the ‘currently reading’ and/or ‘currently listening’ section occasionally included in posts. So, by way of tipping my hat to that feature…

A Reflection on Genius

iTunes Genius that is…a reflection on true genius will need to wait for another day.
When I first heard about the Genius feature in iTunes, I was excited.  It seemed like a promising feature, and it certainly is…but in my experience, it’s still only that – promising.
On a scale of  ‘Completely Clueless’ to ‘Near Genius’, I [...]

Sometimes Planes fall out of the sky…

Some concerts are just plane fun, others moving and still others profound in that they seam to offer an incredible insight into the artist. A few weeks ago I set sail for Louisville Kentucky to catch a Bon Iver show which definitely fit into this later category. The show was simply stunning; a small, [...]

Thoughts on the eve of an ignogration

Standing in the middle of Cheeseman Fellowship Hall;
I hold the video camera as tears spread on everything bagels and images of those Haitian’s and there presentless Christmas scare the living gosh golly bejebishites out of any good god fearing republican who never drink the water but will pass the plate to drop the bombs of [...]

Best of 2007

In that time of year when film, music, and book critics are compiling their ‘best of’ lists for 2007, I decided to compile a little list of my own (not to be too presumptuous).
One slight deviation from the norm – this list represents the music, films, and books that I came across in 2007, not [...]

Music and Faith

The other day I came across an article focusing on the seemingly taboo topic of faith (and more specifically Christianity) when it comes the world of indie rock.
Though it was actually published over a year ago, the comments are fairly insightful – read it here.

This is really happening, Happening…

In one of the best things to happen since [insert great music event here]…
Radiohead is releasing their new album (In Rainbows) – available for download as early as next week! I nearly fell out of my chair today reading that.
Apparently, you can pay whatever you want for the download (including free) and it’s due in [...]

Rock Out

This past weekend, Lollapalooza invaded Chicago. Since living in the city, I hadn’t yet attended the three-day music fest given that most bands I was interested in seeing were split across the three days (or on conflicting stages), so it never seemed like a good choice.
This year, however, there happened to be a fine [...]

Iceland is cool

It seems that Sigur Ros are planning to release a couple of goodies later in the year:

A live DVD (from a trek around Iceland – if the trailer is any indicator, it could be amazing)
A double-compilation album (includes recordings of three unreleased songs, and acoustic versions of six songs)

Release date of November 5th for both.

Let the hours roll by…

Few things say ‘it’s summertime’ like a Dave Matthews Band concert – I was reminded of this a few days ago.
It was my third DMB show, and may have been my favorite set list of the three:
One Sweet World *
You Might Die Trying *
Still Water
Don’t Drink the Water *
Grey Street *
Louisiana Bayou *
The Idea Of [...]
